“Don’t numb yourself to your trials and difficulties, nor build mental walls to exclude pain from your life. You will find peace not by trying to escape your problems, but by confronting them courageously.”
”Ten Mile Morning” MY Journey Through Anorexia Nervosa By Adam Lamparello
Ten-Mile Morning is about my four-and-a-half year struggle with anorexia nervosa. Honestly, though, Ten-Mile Morning is more about you than it is about me. I wrote Ten-Mile Morning to help you and everyone around the world who is battling with an eating disorder. Up to twenty percent of people die from an eating disorder, and if I can play a role in supporting those with eating disorders to seek treatment, then I will have acheived my goal. My personal experience with anorexia, and the motive in writing Ten-Mile Morning, was to share with you the darkest days of my life, the moments of uncertainty, the feeling that death was preferable to life, and the belief that I was losing control of my reality. Yet, from these most difficult years, where I sunk into the depths of depression and starvation, came hope, a new relationshp with myself, a sense of self-acceptance, self-love, and a new chance of living life as my authentic self on my own terms. I found that I could pursue my dreams and passions, and that life could be meaningful. I discovered that I could be and deserved to be happy. I discovered, most of all, that I could have healthy ways of control in my life, and that my happiness did not depend on other people. I will share with you some of the excerpts from Ten-Mile Morning:
